I have been riding and racing the AGR 29 GR’s for about 2 months now, with about 500 miles of road, gravel, and some light mtb trails. I also raced them to a podium spot at a Transylvania gravel series race up at Lake Raystown in Pennsylvania (pics below from the race). Throughout all the places I have ridden these wheels, they always just work. That's the phrase I keep coming back to “just work”.
These days I don’t train as much as I once did, and my power curve has definitely moved in the direction you don’t want it to. I have a mortgage, a wife, a full-time job, and a new puppy. So the 10 hours a week I ride, I want to make sure they are the best 10 hours I can get. And for me, one of the best ways to ensure those 10 hours are great, is by not worrying about equipment. Over the course of riding and racing these wheels, I have never had to worry about them. They are quiet, roll like new, and yeah I think they're really fast. Do I think they are faster than the wheels on your bike? I don’t know, and I am not going to pretend to throw “wind-tunnel” data at you. However, here are some important points to think about, that make these the best value gravel wheels on the market:
Price - $1,150

Weight - 1,425 grams
Internal width - 29 mm
External width - 38 mm
Given the bottom three stats, no other wheels on the market are even close in price. You could dump these wheels in a ditch, buy another set and still save money compared to some wheels. I just can’t get around that as a consumer. Like in my mind there is no amount of data that would make me pay triple the price for essentially the same wheel (looking at you Zipp). Plus the bearings are ceramic coated, and are super easy to replace, and spin great. Looks are subjective, but I personally like the more subdued look as well. It’s refreshing to not have wheels that need to scream at you, to get your attention.

And lastly, this brand is made by people who love making stuff that just works. The CEO and founder is an automotive suspension engineer who loves bikes. He started making custom frames for his friends, and they loved them so much, he started this company. He does it not to try and make millions, but because he is so tired of big brands ripping people off for quality stuff, Me, our “marketing guy” used cycling as an outlet during a tough time in my childhood, and fell in love with the sport. Hearing stories like these make me want to support a brand. Not because we claim we are 1.7 watts faster than everyone else. But because we make an excellent product. And when I die, I want to ride stuff that stands for something. I want to make sure that the stuff I ride tells stories that I believe in. After all, standing for something you believe in is all you have.
As always ask us questions, tell us what you think, and go have fun on your bike.
